The Chiacgo Beginnings

The name "Chicago" comes from the American-Indian word "Checagou" which menas wild onion.

In 1803 the Unites States Army built Fort Dearborn, which became an important trading centre and in 1833 the town of Chicago grow around this fort, on the shore of the Lake Michigan, the American's biggest lake.

This town became the nation's major grain market and the biggest meatpacking industry, and this brought many new people from rural communities and immigrant.
